Every hard disk drive will eventually fail, or more likely develop unreadable bad sectors that can stop your computer from working. You may still be able to recover your files by using an alternative operating system that starts from CD. Knoppix is a FREE Linux bootable CD that lets you copy your files to a USB memory stick or USB drive. See:
